     It is probably safe to assume that most of you have at least some passing knowledge of the meaning behind the most famous gay pride emblem: the rainbow. The rainbow was the vision of artist Gilbert Baker, who created it in 1978 as the banner of the LGBT community. The eight colors each stood for certain concepts:

·    Violet = Spirit
·    Indigo = Harmony
    

     The original eight colors also included pink, which stood for sex, and turquoise, which symbolized magic or art. Those colors were eventually dropped from the design, and indigo was replaced with royal blue, which stood for serenity.
